School Programs

That last week of school was so busy.
Every grade did an hour long program sharing everything they had learned for the whole entire year.
Although hectic, the parents were proud as punch watching their kids be so smart.
It was lovely.

Ady was first.
She and her friend came home from school that day and worked on each other's hair to be cute for their big night.  Adorable.

Their program as 6th graders was pretty impressive doing chants and songs and poetry.  They had an overhead where they demonstrated knowing all the parts of speech and breaking sentences apart. etc. etc. etc.
They  even recited the poem, The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe which is 18 stanzas.
SO super duper amazing!
Either Ady was the smartest or the teacher's favorite or just the most reliable
she had 3 parts where she led the class in something,
or demonstrated something on the overhead projector.
Before the program she said, "I don't anyone to come and watch the program because I'll be so embarrassed.  I am doing everything and I hate that."
Yep, she hates being the center and having people look at her, but we were so stinkin' proud.  Her confidence has grown so much in the 6th grade.  She was definitely one of the top kids in all the 6th grade and it showed.

Emmy's 3rd grade program was the next night.
She was cute as a button doing all her songs and chants and poems.
I was amazed that all of that memorizing could be squished into their brains.

Her smile was bright and cute and unlike Ady, she loved being on the stage and performing.  She always enjoys a good audience with cameras.

Everything was going great until...
half-way through the program something went wrong.
I have no idea what happened but Emmy's smile turned upside down and she was flat.  Her cute teacher noticed and got down from her directing chair and tried to make Emmy smile.  Was she mad, sad???  We didn't know but the show carried on.  Emmy was still saying the words and doing the actions but she lost her sparkle.

Afterwards, she ran to Grandma and Grandpa in tears
sobbing
uncontrollably.
Part of that is Emmy's style: she loves DRAMA, the ups and downs.
She knew she had messed up by not smiling and she was upset
besides that
her tummies hurt.
Maybe the intensity of the week had built up and she was done.
I have no idea.
Oh boy
she did great and we were proud but we were all glad that week was over.

All in all
these were nights where I was once again so grateful for the kid's school
all they had learned in that quick 1 year
and SO SO grateful that the school year was winding down.
I don't think I have ever been more grateful for school to be over.
