Let freedom ring for the whole weekend

In Utah when any holiday lands on a Sunday you can bet your bootie that the whole state will rearrange things to be celebrated in a way so no one is disappointed.

This 4th of July 2010 was no exception.

To start things off, Saturday morning bright and early was the annual Cult de sac breakfast for Mom and Dad's street. The works. Even Marc crawled out of bed unusually earlier for the delectable spread.

On our "Funtimes" list of things to do while in Utah was to hike the Y. It was going to be a warm day so we took off right after the breakfast. Jeff, Maryn, Adyson and myself were the hikers. We weren't in the mood to drag up others who wouldn't enjoy the view just for the sake of "togetherness. After many switchbacks (11 to be exact) we finally could see the goal.

We felt a sense of accomplishment, relief, patriotism and BYU pride once at the top.

the treacherous walk down the Y.

If you look real close you can see Mom and Dad's house.

Saturday evening we did our first round of sparklers.

Admit it, you don't have to be a kid to love sparklers.

A family that Sparkles together stays together.

Here's the climax of the whole Saturday. My brother, Marty is in a bishopric with James Christensen. (THE James Christensen who is the famous artist.) So, living just around the corner from Mr. Bishop Christensen, Marty and Marjorie got invited to the "Cult de sac of fire" which has been a big neighborhood tradition sponsored by Mr. artist James Christensen. (Jim if you're close enough.) (not to be confused with the Stadium of Fire). It was amazing for a neighborhood production. A big stage set on his driveway with some good, well-known performances starting early in the evening. There were several hundred in attendance and the best part is that it was FREE.
The headliners for the evening were none other than "Ryan Shupe and the Rubberband." THE Ryan Shupe. Honest. It was awesome to hear the songs in person that we have jammed out to on CDs.
Thanks Marjorie and Marjorie (as Kaden calls them) for living in a fun neighborhood and knowing famous people.

Marianne still hasn't delivered yet.

The road had patriotic artwork on it to add the to the festive spirit of things.
After the musical entertainment began the fireworks show. There was even sparks coming out the upstairs window. FUN!

As we were driving home we saw the "Stadium of Fire" winding down with their humongous show of fireworks. We stopped on the side of the road to enjoy another fireworks show. It was a toss-up as to which fireworks show we enjoyed more.
Sunday was the actually 4th of July. We invited Uncle Wes, Aunt Lois and the cousins over for a BBQ. Danielle and I were in charge of the dessert. We experimented with a yummy treat we found off of www.bakerella.com Yummy cake pops! So good I know for certain that we'll try them again. Dangerous though. You can't just have one.
Shawn and Angie's 2 cute girls having a picnic on the deck.
It's not a family gathering unless there's a talent show ending with a little singing around the piano. Ahhhh, brings back so many memories.
A cousins and spouses photo. No one has changed a bit!

Monday was the celebrated 4th of July.
The Shumans.

What's better than the Provo's Freedom Festival parade? So many memories of me as a teenager marching down those streets.

Thanks for making it all possible Ken and Marlenee. Love your guts!
And a Happy 4th of July!
