McKay and Danielle's baby surprised us all and came a few weeks early.
As I was driving to school we got the call that they were headed to the hospital and we were so excited. The kids didn't even want to go to school because they were anticipating the arrival of their new cousin so much! How would they ever focus on school work???
She was born not too much later. But, the word was that after a few seconds of her being born and catching her first breath she inhaled gunk and she struggled to breath after that.
This peaceful picture was taken by McKay right after she was born and seconds before her struggles. We didn't see her like this until almost 2 weeks later.
After several hours of struggling they put her in an ambulance and sent her to the UVRMC where she went to ICU was put on a ventilator for a few days. It was so sad to see her hooked up to so many machines but it was nice to see her body relax. We knew she would be ok but it was a sad, long process.
Since Danielle was in another hospital, she only got to see the baby for a few seconds before she was whisked away, then she only could see her by Skype after that. Finally, on the 4th day Danielle left her hospital and came straight to see the baby. (They still hadn't named her since Danielle hadn't had time to bond and figure out a name for her. There were more important things to attend to don't you think?)
This is Danielle touching her baby for the first time.
Since the baby was in ICU we visitors could only look thru the window at the baby. Fortunately she was placed right in front of the window so we could see her... otherwise we wouldn't have made so many trips to the hospital.
First time holding little baby.
She had such a swishy face with all that hosiery stuff attached to her.
Her coloring was good and she was getting stronger by the day.

Happy, cute parents with their new preshy baby girl. At this point they decide to stop calling the baby Halle and try calling her Kate...
