A Time Out

One of my favorite things in life is going to Time Out For Women. This year it was in Portland and I went with my special friend, Marla. (I was surprised to see that she called me Marla on her blog so I thought I would return the favor to her. Maybe to protect the innocent? What's up with that Sylvia? ha! I LOVE Wanda soooo much, but I don't love taking pictures with her. She has a lean, beautiful, thin, tall frame which makes me feel all the more short and squatty next to her. Regardless of our opposite body types our weekend together was divine for sure.
We began by going to the temple on Friday afternoon which started everything out just perfect! Then we enjoyed our Spiritual feast Friday night and all day Saturday.
Some of the highlights that I gleaned...
*The word ASK is one of the most repeated words in the scriptures. Satan wants us to believe that we are not good enough to ask for help or that we ask for too much.
*Be kind. Everyone you meet is facing something difficult.
*If the Lord can magnify the loaves and fishes he can magnify my talents. He is a multiplier and a magnifier. He WILL make us enough if we let Him. It's not about accomplishing it's about the journey of becoming.
*Even though we are here to be tried and tested he still wants us to have JOY.
There were 2 speakers that I have heard speak several times. I have some of their CD's I listen to and even some of their books. This TOFW they spoke in the middle of some great trials. One found out recently that his wife has brain cancer and is dying. His talk had so much depth to it because it came from a raw, humble place that is so dependant on Heavenly Father. The other speaker just recovered from cancer and a double mastectomy. She spoke on the power of choice. When we don't have control of what's going on in our life we can choose to be strong and to be cheerful. Choose God. Choose to be faithful. Choose to accept suffering. Choose to be grateful. She said that going through suffering makes you the kind of person God wants you to be. How can we become like Him or expect to live in His presence if we haven't been refined through our sufferings like he was with His? How you handle your trials are your gift to him.
The End
