1st Day of School

I never ever thought I would be the kind of mother who dreaded (not dreaded like afraid of, but dreaded like not looking forward to) the first day of school. I thought I would be ever so ready each and every day to kiss those kids out the door with a smile and a wave and a healthy lunch in tote. Then I would prance from service to song throughout the day anticipating the arrival of my little offspring with a healthy snack and a school corner set up for them to accomplish all their academic goals with their little self-motivated selves. BUT, 'tis a far distance from reality. This year I DID NOT want school to start. I wasn't ready to wake up at 6:15 am. I wasn't ready to be stuck to a tight, rigorous shedule. I wasn't ready to tackle ridiculous 5th grade math that I had to research first before I assisted. I wasn't in the mood to start packing daily lunches for particular taste buds. No! No! No! Don't make me do any of that. I love summer and I love bribing my kids to get their jobs done with fun trips to beaches or movies or outings. I love being flexible and spontaneous and social and relaxed.
But, just like being pushed off a cliff...
it just has to happen...
Emmy was excited to have Mrs. Fletcher for the 2nd grade.
Adyson was glad to have the same 5th grade teacher that Maryn had, Ms. Trudeau.
Just like clockwork, the first day of school was as if someone flipped a switch and the heavens turned on their faucets. It was a rude reminder that Summer was indeed over. Funny thing living in Washington is that life doesn't stop with a bit 'o rain. Funny thing too is that usually no one uses umbrellas here either but on this day the sea of umbrellas was amusing.
Maryn had to pose for her first day of school picture too.
As a new 8th grade homeschool Maryn was a wee bit apprehensive about her teacher...
rumor had it that Mrs. Slichta is one of the meanest and
Maryn was about to find out.
party's over sista'
It's all fun and games getting your homeschooling supplies in the mail until that teacher starts cracking her mighty whip and you really do have to study your guts out.
(Stay tuned to how homeschool is going for this student and her teacher.)

Wahoo for homeschool! I hope you both like it! Mrs. Slichta looks like a no-nonsense kind of lady. But be careful...it's much easier to play pranks on your teacher from home! :)
