This month is such a special one...

Happy Birthday to me! I am proud to say that I turned the big 4-0. Really, I worked hard for these 40 years so I'm proud. It's the new 20, right? Anyhoo, Jeff was good at keeping a secret. All I knew was what he wrote in my calendar for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, "unavailable." Ooooo, I was excited to think that I could possibly be unavailable to anyone. Tuesday night we, the whole fam went out to eat to MY favorite restaurant... a yummy bistro called Pomegranate (my mouths watering) whereupon Jeff informed me that I would be going to Palm Springs, CA with my mom and sister there. Aaaaaah! I wept for joy at the thought of warm sunshine upon me. I also shivered with excitement at spending the time with my mom and sister. We are the "gools" and it was only appropriate to spend this momentous time with them... my real bestest friends.
After landing in Ontario, the rental car lady thought Marianne and I were twins. Thanks. She also heard it was my birfday and offered an upgrade... how about a brand new, bright red, Camero? We were quite a sight to behold piling into that vehicle and piling out. We got lots of looks from guys, but we know they were really checking out the car. It was fast and fun. It gave us kind of a thrill that I haven't felt before. Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work.

We checked into the Marriott, ESMERALDA... where else is there to go? It felt like coming back home since we had stayed there 3 years ago also. In fact, Marianne and my mom were the ones that picked that place out of other choices... why go somewhere else if you already love what you know?
I was immediately dressed in my Miss America Banner that said, "Happy Birthday" and my tiara that had a big 4-0 in sparkles. Why fight it? I wore it with pride and had everyone we passed send birthday wishes.
I proudly wore my attire at the grocery store.
We were happy to see that our tangerine trees were very full of yummy fruit. What else to do but climb those trees and pick arm fulls?
We were reminded of our favorite restaurant... the CAVA. Oh my. The buffet is the only thing you'll want to get. And the desserts are mahvelous!
A daily swim in the low 80's is not a bad thing at all.
Next time I'm going for a full week because 4 days is not enough time to unwind from chaos at home. 4 days is lovely, but I was just barely able to forget the children and their schedules in my brain and it was time to come home again. But it was oh so nice to be able to sit and read... or to just sit for that matter.
The CAVA's breakfast buffet is also a must. It included a juicer with all the healthy fixins. We made some tasty concoctions.
Friday we saw Twilight at the 10:30 am showing. (I loved the show. I reacted so differently to the movie than the book. I was a huge Edward fan in the book but the movie I felt like Bella needed to be with Jacob. They had a more natural relationship not to mention Jacob being way cuter. Much too serious with Edward I feel.)
The next day we did some shopping at the mall and made our rounds with dinner... Marianne a salad at Applebees, Mom soup at Marie Calendars and Me, I had leftovers from the CAVA. Watching movies in bed each night was so comfy.
Nickelodeon is now part of the Esmeralda with all the slime activities by the pool. So, it made me feel right at home to see Dora and Sponge Bob wandering around the hotel too.
We tried to spend as much time outside as we could. Just look at that sky and those palm trees and the water and those huge chairs built for 3!
We made it a goal to play a game by the outdoor fire pits that were running all the time. We did it!
The grand stair case at the Esmeralda... the place where when you say "thank you" they say, "My pleasure." I love that response.
The Esmeralda gave me a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries and a bottle of chilled wine. Oh sweet. Too bad we're not drinkers. The housekeeper lady gave us a handful of chocolate kisses as we passed her cart in the hallway. The rugs inside the elevators always told you some positive thought for the day. My facial wasn't long enough. Picking grapefruit on our walk to the Hiatt was thrilling. Sometimes in Palm Springs there are random mountains in the parking lots of grocery stores. The Esmeralda isn't really in Palm Springs it is in Indian Wells. If your mom hands you your drivers license and you can't find it later be sure to check your bra before you freak out.
Thanks Marianne and Mom for a fabulous time! Thanks Jeff for being a great husband and planning such a trip that a woman needs. Here's to another 40!

First emotion? Envy. Your family is beautiful. You post great pictures. Those pictures let me know how much I missed on Halloween, your birthday looked like lots of fun, and your main picture was obviously taken after your sun filled roadtrip (great sun tans!).
