Kaden's very first Pinewood derby ever happened in May.
Jeff, myself, Keith Tuescher and John Beesley (who were awesome pine wood derby makers back in the day with my brothers), Brother Wingate (our scout master) and most of all Grandpa, were the team who got this car done. With all this expertise we felt like we had a pretty awesome car ready to race. We also felt the little competitive edge that the parents might get wanting their son to have the fastest car out there.
We had the car done several days done before the race feeling pretty pleased that we didn't have to stress last minute stuff with it. However, the day before we had a little neighbor girl in our house who is a wild thing. She saw the car sitting on the counter and thought it would be fun to give it a shove to watch it fly off the counter where upon a wheel snapped off. Kaden's sisters were in hysterics calling me on the phone telling me all about it. They knew of the work that went into this car and they knew that if they touched the car themselves they would be in deep doo-doo.
Well, the car never quite recovered.
The wheel was glued back on but it wasn't the same.
Kaden was an awesome sport about the fact that his car was pretty slow... well, the slowest.
It did get the award for the most awesome looking car.
And that I would have to agree on.
I would have given the award for the most awesomest kid ever too.

That's a boy who made the best of it.
I was so proud of his good attitude.
That's also a kid who had terrible allergies that day with huge puffy eyes.
