So many parties for dressing up in Halloween costumes this year.
This is me for our Young Men/Young Women dress up activity.
By the time we carved pumpkins and ate donuts from a string most of the costumes were off.
But, we sure had a great time.
These are awesome kids and I LOVE working with them.
What a blessing they are to me in my life!
We had our traditional Matheson/Johnson cousin Halloween party.
We had a nerd, Katniss Everdeen, another nerd, a sister missionary and a baby.
All the cousins!
Kaden had a Halloween guitar recital.
He was an adorable nerd right there in the front row.
His teacher was a frightful Frankenstein.
Great concert and so proud of Kaden!
He has quite the musical ear for hearing and learning music I might add.
One night, 10 days before Halloween there was a knock at the door. I didn't answer it because I was cooking dinner and yelled for someone else to get it. The knocking got more persistent and the doorbell started ringing. A tad annoyed I went to go get it and there stood these 4 adorable kidies saying "Trick or Treat!" I laughed and said they were so cute and "time to come in for dinner." After some enthusiastic explaining I learned that they already had a really good stash of food in their pillow cases. They had already gone to several houses in the neighborhood who very kindly obliged with their trick or treat requests. For those neighbors that didn't have candy yet they gave popcorn, granola bars, fruit snacks. These kids were absolutely hilarious how they had sweet-talked our neighbors into celebrating Halloween early.
Halloween night we had the whole family over for taco soup, movies and trick or treating!
Kaden picked out a different costume each time he had to dress up.
Tonight he was some sort of scary skeleton guy. (I'm sure he has a name, but I am not with-it enough to know what he's called.)
Maryn was a precious nerd again. It seems to be her go-to costume, but frankly I think she looks too normal. Ha!
Emmy was Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games.
Ady was... batgirl? I don't really know. She's at that age where she's not sure whether to dress-up or not.
The whole gang. I felt like I had already dressed-up twice and so I was good to just wear my orange and black.
Of course the Shumans had to go all out as Disney characters and show us all up... again.
Good job James for being a most awesome Mickey!
Kaden and neighbor buddy dividing up their loot and making some trades.
Love the organizing of the candy.
Here's some Halloween type pictures...
Towards the end of the Summer and Fall we had tons of flies. Our neighborhood was plagued with them and we wondered what was going on. Everyone got fly strips and had crazy stories of catching flies. Had to get a photo of our fly catcher. nasty!
A weird thing that made all the kids gag and want to throw up was trying to figure out which of these containers was the apricot jam and which was the Butternut squash soup. To get the wrong one on your Peanut Butter sandwich or toast was awful!
One Sunday morning as we were getting ready for church Kaden put in a Cup Of Noodles in the microwave to eat before we left. He, however, forgot to add the water. Before the microwave was even done cooking the kitchen filled with smoke and house alarms went off. I ran downstairs to a completely melted cup in the microwave and black noodles. The cup was smoking sooo bad and all I wanted to do was get it out of the house. I grabbed the burned, black cup and put it outside on the wooden steps going out into our patio. Didn't think anything of it other than wanting to clear our house of smoke. I went upstairs to finish getting ready for church. After 10 minutes I heard Kaden yell, "FIRE! There's a FIRE!!!!"
I ran downstairs as fast as I could, looked out the back door to see flames about 3 feet tall on our wooden steps. I grabbed a towel and a pan full with water that was soaking in the sink and threw it on the flames until they were out completely.
Apparently, because it was so windy outside the cup blew into a hamster cage that was sitting on our porch. It melted through the cage and intensified in heat adding the wind to the mix all caused our wood steps to ignite into a mighty big flame.
It could have been much worse.
The stairs aren't destroyed but the hamster cage yes.
If Kaden hadn't seen those flames right away like he did...
If he was upstairs getting ready like the rest of the family...
Moral of the story, always add water to your Cup of Noodles.
Actually, don't even buy them because they are gross.
Happy Halloween!
