During Christmas Break while we enjoyed having Merrill around with us we tried to do lots of fun family things.
One such event was having everyone come to my house for dinner...
then an activity.
I was SO excited for this activity because I knew with this group it would be a hit!
And it was.
We had a Family Food Fear Factor.
I placed a different food item in front of them and they had to eat it. Simple.
We just wanted to introduce them to new foods, see whose taste buds were the toughest, see who would possibly go to a crazy place on their mission
and have a fun little contest.
Food item #1: a lemon.
Food item #2: Water chestnuts
Food item #3: Coconut water.
Food item #4: dehydrated okra.
I know Marianne's tongue grabs your attention right off the bat and is very attractive in this picture, but I really LOVE Emmy's face. She must have eaten something really nasty. She looks pale and almost looks like she's going to barf.
Poor thing but I'm not very sympathetic.
In this exact moment she is growing and know that she can do hard things.
Uh oh! Looks like Cambri ate something nasty too.
Food item #5: Grape Leaves. I have to admit this one was the worst just because it didn't break down when you chewed it. You just chewed and chewed and chewed sucking the juice out of it unable to swallow the big fiberous leaf that was left.
Just nasty!
Everyone was such good sports.
Check out Grandpa's face.
He usually will eat anything.
Food item #6: Seaweed
All the kids were awesome participators! I was so impressed that they all tried most everything. Some struggled more than others. Some thought of it like they were being forced to eat weird, gross stuff. Some thought of it like a game that they were NOT going to be beat at.
Some of the faces were worth the whole evening.
Food item # 7: Canned sardines
I cut it up in bitty pieces so they wouldn't see the whole entire fish.
Poor Ady trying so hard on that sardine.
The kids thought our food fear factor was so disgusting but they thought it was the funnest thing ever. They were sort of disappointed when the game came to an end. But, as in life, all nasty food has to come to an end.
Maybe we started a new tradition for our Christmas break.
We better keep our eyes open throughout the year for more gross things.
