A Superhero Birthday

Kaden
our best boy
turned 6...
finally.
All he wanted was a superhero party and hot dogs.
But first, he chose omlets for breakfast.
And then opened a few presents before school.
Star Wars guys and some binoculars.
(I went to Toys R Us to get the Star Wars stuff.  All I know is Darth Vader, Luke, Leah, R2D2 and Chewbacca.  How am I  supposed to know what to get when there are a gazillion guys now and I'm not up on everything?  Fortunately, there was a 40 year old "kid" shopping for Star Wars guys at the same time.  I asked him one right question and he went crazy; shivered with excitement as he shared all the coolest things about Star Wars.  I walked out with about $200.000 worth of unplanned awesomeness thanks to my new Toys R Us buddy.)
Anyway,
this is about Kaden.
He was able to bring treats in to share with his Kindergarten class.
He wanted to bring in the assorted box of chips from Costco.
He loves Doritos more than any normal kid should.
He also got a hot dog in his lunch at school.
That night we went to Chuck E. Cheese with just the family and had a great time.
He got to open the rest of his presents and got
a Darth Vader (or Dark Vader) blanket.
The DVD Dolphin Tale (which we love)
some guys to go with his Castle that he got for Christmas
and a remote control spider.
These guys are awesome.
Look at the detail for the White Knight.
The most painful process of the whole year thus far is picking out the prize at the ticket counter at Chuck E. Cheese.
Shoot me dead!
I hate this part SO bad.
It took for...ev...ver (and ever Hallelujah) to pick out what everyone wanted.
I wanted to go and spank all those bums that were aimed right at me for way too long.
On Saturday Kaden had his big family bash to celebrate his big ol' 6 years.
He wanted a Super Hero Party and asked that everyone dress up as some sort of super hero.  Once again, the family did not disappoint.

Batman wanted hot dogs for the party...
big surprise.
He also wanted "white cake with white frosting with a cherry on top."
Don't know why he was so specific with those directions.
We added Spiderman's web to make them a little more interesting.
Grandma and Grandpa were super duper superheroes.
Then we played musical chairs...
Kaden and Spencer were the last 2 standing and we felt it best to leave it at that and call them both winners.
Then we played "stick the logo on batman chest."
The last order that Kaden had requested since his previous birthday was to have a pinata.   This Batman pinata took a beating on the first whack.  The hole where the rope holds broke through so we had to tie it all up in order for Batman to hang.
poor thing.
There are so many reasons why I love Kaden.
When I tell people that my youngest is the only boy their first reaction is to feel sorry for him.
Don't.
He is just fine.
He has a good mix of tough and tender about him that makes him just right.
He balances things out for us.
He loves sports and Star Wars and Indiana Jones and guts and grossness.
But he also likes to play "spa" with his sisters and massage feet or tickle back or fix hair.
He loves to recite the Nursery Rymnes that he's learning in school but he also can sing most all the songs that his sister's sing off the radio.
He is in the top groups in his Kindergarten class.  His teacher says he's a college Kindergartner and he can recite the first half of the Gettysburg address and name all sorts of stuff about the 7 continents.
He loves to snuggle and give big, juicy, smoochy kisses.
But he also loves to wrestle and give Karate chops.
Speaking of chops he loves to cut anything that needs chopping in the kitchen.
He's on his way to being a great chef; stirring, cutting, mixing.
His special job is to empty the silverware and vacuum the kitchen.
Whenever I tell him that something is hard for me and I need his help he is out to prove that he is tough and can take care of me.
He says the best prayers.
He is getting to be a great reader and loves books.
Since living in Utah he has gotten many bloody noses.  I need to allow 10 extra minutes in the morning  for him to spend scratching his dry skin.  He says, "my whole body is itchy."
He still hiccups when he laughs.
He still wants to play the guitar.
He still loves his bike and misses it so much. (haven't had it for 6 months now.)
He hopes to start soccer soon.
It's getting around the school that his nickname is Kado.  He sort of likes that because he says, "that means people know me."
He is stinkin' cute and fun.
We love Kaden so much and are so thankful that he is in our home.
