Cystic Fibrosis Walk at 7 Peaks

A family in my parent's ward (who I graduated from H.S. with) has a son who has Cystic Fibrosis.
He's 15 years old.  A friend of Maryn's.
They sponsor a big walk that we participated in this year.
BYU's Cosmo decided to join the cause too.
We got decked out in our orange shirts that said, "Cleggs for a Cure."

After the walk there were fun rides in awesome cars and buggies.  Water fights.  Pizza.
Fun to be gathered with friends
all for a good cause.

Conveniently, Maryn started her job at Seven Peaks right after that walk.  So, she just walked through the fence and started right in working.
A few words about that job since we are now 3 months from that experience...
As a 15 year old with a trillion teenagers going after that job, Maryn was the envy of many for having landed that job.  It's a much coveted summer job for teenagers and after the 1st day Maryn found out why.  To say that she LOVED working there is an under statement.  She was obsessed with everything about it...
the people, the cute life guards, working hard outside, getting discounted food, the environment of fun slides, cute boys in swimsuits and helping get people their tubes.
The paycheck was just a nice perk.
It was supposed to be a part time job at the Provo Seven Peaks.  My thought was that we would drop her off to work and then we would just spend a few lazy hours hanging out at the park while she worked, then pack up and all go home.
My negative feelings towards Maryn having a job slowing started to develop.  Somehow, her part time job turned into an every single day thing with full time hours that consumed the whole entire family helping to pick her up and drop her off.  Our life revolved around Seven Peaks.  Maryn did nothing else.  She made a whole collection of new best friends that she had to add to her contacts list and attend parties and hang out.  Everything else in Maryn's life took the back seat.
One day I woke up and felt like the Summer I had been looking forward to for so long became a bleak, long summer.  Parents are supposed to give your children experiences to help them grow and develop, but at what expense?  The only answer was for Maryn to quit her job after only 1 month of working there.
The hardest part was that Maryn had been confronted by the front office staff wanting to promote her.  They loved her people skills and work ethic.  They wanted her to work part time at the tubes and part time in the front office.  I was so proud of Maryn but I also knew that she would have so many opportunities as she got older to earn money and get promotions.  I know she has it in her, so I wasn't surprised at her ability to work hard, but I also had to save my teenager and save myself, save the family and save GAS!

With many tears, Maryn agreed to quit.  Deep down she knew it was the right thing to do too.  It was painful but so so good.  She had a blast while it lasted!
