"I'd be fine not having a snack. The kids come home from school and eat, then they go to Activity Days and have a snack and when they return they aren't hungry for dinner. I say no to the extra calories. Besides that, Activity Days is only 1 hour and that will give you more time to focus on your activity."
The more I thought about it I was feeling pretty satisfied with my response. Why does everything have to be centered around food? Especially sugary foods? BUT, I was shocked when I started receiving responses from the other moms. They ALL said, "I'd be happy to be included in a snack schedule. Sign me up." or "I know the girls love the snacks and socializing, I'll bring food."
Oh my gosh! Not one other mom had the same feelings as I did. (and there are 15 moms.) Am I the only one??? Am I that far off base???
I am now feeling stronger about my feelings but also wondering if compared to the majority of the population of moms if I am nothing but a stick-in-the-mud.
Sheeze!
We wonder why obesity is rising in our children... it's the mom's who want food to be apart of everything... and a lot of it.
Kaden's T-Ball practice on Saturday is a perfect example. The team Mom passed out a lunch sack to each of the kids fill with an apple, juice box, crackers and candy bar. Are you kidding me? Did she just raise the bar of expectations for what I am required to bring for snacks for little 5 year old boys? What happened to orange slices?
The Slichtas do have ice cream in our freezer and Doritos in our cupboards. We like to make cookies and brownies. We put sour cream on our tacos and butter on our toast. I am not a health nut... I just believe that food doesn't have to be included in everything we do. I am super surprised that the other mom's nearby don't feel the same way.
Just venting.
