A Formal Affair

Jeff and I attended an auction for a wonderful cause. In our ward there is a couple who run a home for homeless women... House of Hope. Their organization is called Mama's Hands where they also help the homeless in Seattle. On Wednesdays they take cell phones downtown and let the homeless people phone home. They have so many neat stories to share and a wonderful spirit about them. We were asked to help with this fund raiser. It was a very formal evening.

The event was held at a Golf Course up on the peak of a mountain overlooking Seattle. We saw the lakes and could see clear out to the Olympic Mountains. The sunset was exquisite.

There was a silent auction at the beginning of the evening. Dinner was served while a live auction took place. There was a short program and then a dessert dash for tables bidding the highest price then running to grab the dessert of their choice. We walked away feeling pleased with our winnings... 12 haircuts, a Kindle and a cruise! It all went toward a good cause, right? Our table was a blast. The food was divine. The evening was so special and uplifting. It gave us the warm and happy feeling you get when you want to serve, help and make someone happy.

True happiness comes from forgetting your own troubles and reaching out to someone who is worse off than you.

On the way home I was feeling bad that we didn't take enough pictures. As we sat in the car we decided to take a few head shots of ourselves.

Jeff messed up the first one.

Jeff messed up the next one too.

We were laughing so hard in this one. I hated the crook in my neck so we had to try for another shot.

We were crying at this point so this one didn't turn out either. We actually took about 5 that looked like this... our hard belly laughs deformed our faces so we looked ridiculous. On the last one I decided to goof off. Where in the world is Jeff looking???

We had such a blast this evening. We never dress up and go on a fancy date. It was fun to switch things up and change our traditional date of going to dinner and a movie. Jeff was a supremo date...it helped us remember that we are more than just parents... husband/wife and friends. Love him! We are also more committed to reach out and serve people, forgetting ourselves by making someone else happy.

k, you seriously had me laughing so hard! Isn't the best to do something different with your man?! Looks like fun. That's crazy about Jeff & his NY trip. We did luck out that we stayed in Soho. What a night. Call us when you get down here!
