Scarey Children

Halloween. It sort of changes as your kids get older. I liked that they took responsibility for their own costumes. Jeff and I didn't plan our costumes in time. We always say, "let's dress up next year" because adults that dress up always seem funner. We want to be fun but sometimes tired gets in the way.
We had a soup/bread dinner with a gazillion people at the Gehrett's home. It was utter chaos, but we went for the food, and it actually was fun. Jeff was supposed to have taken the kids out trick or treating but he lost Emmy, who mixed in the our friends and Ady, who really ended up all by herself. Kaden came home at 7:00 with about 10 pieces of candy and was ready to dive in.
Maryn spent the evening with her friend Hailey who moved the next week. I think Hailey is a dead Go Go Girl and Maryn is Pippy Longstocking.
I love this picture of Maryn. Even when she thinks she is so mature and grown up, this is who she is to me... cute and funny.
Kaden had wanted to be a pirate since his friend, JP decided he was going to be a pirate... way back in September. The day before Halloween we went to Emmy and Ady's school for their classroom parties which we were invited to. They were dress-up parties so Kaden got all decked out in his pirate outfit. The minute we walked into the school a 4th grader pointed at Kaden and said, "Look at the cute pirate." Kaden thought they were making fun of him and he started saying, "I don't want to be a pirate! The kids will laugh at me!" He would not go into Emmy's classroom but huddled in a corner as if he were in "time-out." Even the teacher asked if he had done something. Another mom came in and said, "there's a little boy out there, does he belong to anyone?" What could I do? He was so self-conscious and thought everyone was looking at him, and laughing even though there were 22 other kids dressed up way goofier than him. He stayed out of Ady's class too. Needless to say, we went home and he took off that pirate costume and he hasn't touched it since. I had no idea that my little boy was so sensitive and aware of others thinking about him. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. Anyway, for trick or treating Kaden was a firefighter... good thing last years costume still fit.
Emmy wanted to be a witch but she didn't want to wear the big hat that went with this costume so she said she was a wizard. Thanks to my mom who made the girls these witches costumes when Emmy was 1. This actually was the costume that Maryn wore. Sad. If you were to look close you would see how professional the dress is... designed by a costume designer for sure.
Ady was a simple but adorable bumble bee. She was pleased with her cuteness.
Kaden chowing down after 20 minutes of trick or treating. He's been putting too much effort in his smile lately.
Maryn got over 9 pounds of candy! She took our laundry bag. It was full and heavy. Didn't you love to organize your candy too when you were little?
The candy fairy came a week after Halloween this year. The kids can exchange their candy for money. The more candy, the more money.
